It is interesting though, because I just rewatched “Family of Blood” and Martha says there was nothing in the instructions about what she should do if John Smith falls in love and Smith is like “he didn’t think of that? What kind of a person is he?” But the reason he didn’t think John Smith would fall in love is because the Doctor couldn’t. The Doctor’s still grieving the love of his life, and is in no position to be thinking of loving someone else romantically, and so he wasn’t thinking about how his human alter could fall in love.
